Spring time is vernal pool time! Behind the school we have a very special body of temporary water called a vernal pool. Vernal pools such as this are protected in Maine because of their very important and diverse species of wildlife which play an important role in the food web of Maine's fresh water and woodlands.
Each spring we learn about vernal pools by exploring them carefully, journaling our observations, gathering data, and learning to identify the special creatures that make a vernal pool unique. Careful capture, examine, and release is taught and practiced.
